NEWS FROM
THE DESIGNER LARRY HERSBERGER
2008 has
started off in a flurry of EXCITEMENT.
We would
like to thank the many many studios who have contacted
us for a catalog and all of those who have placed orders
with Back to Back. We know you will love your new sets
and we wish you a happy, healthy and successful 2008.
NEW
PRODUCT FOR 2008
The
latest in our ever growing product line is the
RUSTIC RAILROAD TRACKS. This dynamic set
features very real and authentic looking tracks, ties,
spur stopper (bumper), crossing sign and much much more.
We have also recently added a flexible double sided
BOXCAR wall. This allows the photographer to use this great
new set inside and out.
The
designer...Larry Hersberger...says, "when using the set
indoors or outdoors, be sure to accessorize the set with
rocks and synthetic grasses and plants. Make your tracks
look like old abandoned railroad tracks. When anyone
sees your customers' photographs created on your tracks,
they will not know if it was done right in your studio
or in your outside photo area. It may be set up just
behind your studio and no one will ever know. How cool
and easy is that?"
No longer
will you have to pack up and go to a location.
(Also...did you know photographing on actual live or
abandoned railroad tracks is illegal in all 50 states?)
No longer
will you have to worry about a subject getting slivers
or dirty from the old rusted and worn tracks and ties.
With the
new Rustic Railroad Tracks you will be safe, legal and
above all....the talk of your community.

MORE FROM LARRY HERSBERGER
"One of
my latest
set designs is called LITTLE WONDER. I have been
photographing the LITTLE WONDER recently and loving it. I am very proud of this set and of the
images. On one side, my goal, when doing the design, was to
capture almost a Norman Rockwell feel mixed with the
characteristics of Little Rascals and Tom Sawyer. These
three styles were certainly my inspiration. The other side I
was looking to achieve a dreamlike fairytale feel from old
Europe. I wanted the set to be easy to use when
photographing boys and girls. In the end it is all about
making a mother go "AWWWWE".
I have not
spoken much over the last two decades about how I design or
photograph. When I design and photograph, I am trying to
tell a story. It is much like doing a painting...just 3D. I
want the end image to look like a painting with a person in
it. I want it to be more than just a photo or snap shot. The
set and the image must have meaning and purpose. The image
should invoke emotion and even start conversation.
Design
starts with an idea. Then comes the creation of the
set which allows the idea to come life. Then comes the
photograph, which really is the end product. Once I feel the
idea is sincerely brought to life and I love the image, I
then know I can teach other photographers to do the same
thing. I then challenge them to think outside this box and
find other ways to accessorize the same set of pieces. (like
the image with the Santa's elf in the LITTLE WONDER set.) It
is very rewarding to see the end photograph. But nothing
beats the customer creating a stunning image with one of my
designs. I can feel their excitement and inside I feel a
warm sense of co-creation, satisfaction and a feeling of
connection to the world.
Designing
sets and photography is truly my passion in life! The LITTLE
WONDER is a great example of that passion coming to life."
Back to Back Design Works
Inc ....
is the
beginning of a new era in double-sided studio set design and
manufacturing. The set designs at Back to Back are created by
photographers and for photographers. The designs range from
timeless and romantic to rugged, textured and full of contrast.
Some are clean, contemporary and some are traditional. We design
sets for all styles and occasions. There will always be a design
and/or look that works for you and your customers.
WHAT
IS A STUDIO SET?
A studio set from Back to Back Design Works Inc. is a series of
backgrounds and flexible floors, which work in conjunction with
a group of walls, props and pieces to become a double-side,
modular photographers portrait wonderland.
WHAT WILL A PROFESSIONAL BACK TO
BACK SET DO FOR MY STUDIO?
A studio set is an environment, which has four primary purposes.
1. To create a photographic experience
for your customers, that they will never forget. One they will
tell all of their friends about.
2. To take a small area and give it the
illusion of size and location, while at the same time making it
functional!
3. To assist in creating a piece of
portrait art, which has painting-like qualities. Done correctly,
this will enhance portrait sales and sittings.
4. To assist in inspiring creativity
and excitement.
WHAT IS IT MADE OF?
Each set is carved from Expanded Polystyrene. After structural
pieces are applied to the high traffic areas, the sets are then
coated in a NEW and IMPROVED, ultra strong coating. When our
super strong Double-Coat protection is added, the sets can be
used and left outside. Once finished the sets are lightweight
and extremely durable. Each set is hand painted to complete the
essence of artwork, which will then be very evident and
prominent in your images and the look and feel of your studio.
CAN THEY GO ON LOCATION?
Of course! Virtually all pieces (some may be too large) are
designed to fit inside a mini-van and/or be quickly and easily
taken apart to allow for transportation. They are certainly
tough enough! THIS IS AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR BUSINESS! A studio
set can be the most important investment your studio makes. It
sets you apart from your competition and also more importantly,
it creates an environment and experience, which your client
cannot create on their own. Even with the best digital camera,
your customer just cannot duplicate what you have to offer. A
professional studio set becomes part of your company’s image! It
creates a lasting visual and emotional imprint on your
customers. It is a statement of your professionalism and
creativity! This is what your customers are hiring you for!!
